October 2004
While obscuring the hard edges of our campus, the morning fog tells of the contrast between the warm days of waning fall and the cool nights of approaching winter. It also reveals life otherwise hidden. In landscaped ground cover, hundreds of silken webs glisten in the condensed moisture. As if by the work of the secret message spy-juice of youth, the intricate constructions appear where there once was nothing--some stretched between over-hanging branches, others woven tightly into apparent runways of death leading to owners lurking in ambush mode.
The cool moisture also brings a sense of calm to my morning hustle. Asking, almost demanding, that I slow down and keep my eye on nature.
